Street Party meeting 9th May 2018

Thank you to everyone for coming last night, we had a productive evening with loads of ideas and things finalised. Here are the (very long!) notes. Anything with an * are things we need so do have a look to see if you can help us. They are also listed at the bottom as a reminder :)

THEME: Hats! Wear any hat you like, fun hats, normal hats and we'll all have a photo of everyone on the street during the day
TIMES: Decorating from 12pm. Even from 2pm. Road closure ends at 8pm.

1. Music

  • We are going to apply for the amplified music licence after all which costs £21
  • We have two bands hopefully playing and we have 3 more musicians on the street that Mike and Lynn are going to speak to to see if they'd be interested in playing too
  • Inbetween any lice music we'll have a Spotify playlist through the PA system
  • Mike is supplying the PA system, mics etc

2. Games/Activites

  • Cake Bake Off * Make a cake, bring it to no 50 the day before or on the day and we will put it all together on a table and judges will present the winner and runners up with a rosette and prizes TBC
  • Mike has Giant Jenga and table tennis at the church so he will supply those
  • We may hire Giant Connect Four from the Resource Centre (£3.15 for the week)
  • Giant bubble wand £12.99 from Amazon * Unless someone has one we can borrow?
  • Face painting - offered to be done by Liz and her daughter, and Ana also offered too so thank you!
  • Neighbourhood quiz - Nathan has offered to do this for you
  • Brief history of the street with pictures - Does anyone have any? *
  • Fairy cake decorating and craft tables x 2 - Richard has kindly nominated his wife for these areas!

  • Mike to make a larger picture frame for people to have their photo taken in like a photobooth
  • Raffle - the Cleveland Arms has kindly offered a meal for 2, so if anyone has anything, however small, they feel they could offer as a prize it would be most welcome.

3. Cars/Road closures

  • The road closure is officially from Lucerne Rd all the way down to Stanford Avenue and we will have ROAD CLOSED signs on each end to warn people not to drive up in case they need to reverse back down (thank you to Gordon)
  • We will need everyone to move cars from Lucerne Rd south towards Stanford Avenue - no carsbetween no 62-34 and on the other side 75-49
  • We will buy yellow correx signs to put on parking signs to remind people of the road closure two weeks before the day

  • Trestle tables - Mike has trestle tables x 10 for us to use
  • Chairs - please bring a chair or two on the day!
  • Does anyone have any tablecloths we can borrow to cover the tables?
  • Posters/flyers - Marilena has kindly offered to design us a poster for us to print and put in our windows if anyone would like one *
  • We'll have a table with sticky labels for people to write their name and house number on so we can get to know each other

5. Food/Drink

  • Bring any food you'd like to eat, this year we won't be selling food so bring snacks etc. We will have the Cake Bake Off for people to eat later
  • Bring anything you'd like to drink! We're buying paper cups and will sort out ice for people - we need a few buckets *

6. Wet Weather

  • Gazebos - Mike has 3 or 4 - does anyone have any others? * We need 1 to cover the music area, 2 or 3 to cover the cake/craft tables and more in case of bad weather

7. Costs

  • The event is going to cost around £60 for licences, games and cups etc so on the day we will have a bucket going round and we'd be very grateful if anyone wants to pop a few coins in towards the costs of running the event :)

Road Closure Agreed by Council!

YAY! We've had the road closure agreed so the street party is going ahead!! Make sure you all have it in your diaries. Mike and I have done some more door knocking on the north side of the road to introduce ourselves and tell about the street party and hand out a leaflet reminder. Do tell your neighbours when you see them as well.

Signatures from the south side

STREET PARTY UPDATE: SIGNATURES Mike and I had a successful walk around today (and I went around this evening for a few more) and I'm pleased to say that overall we had a wonderful response to the street party and met some lovely people! The form the council need filling in with 75% of the road agreeing to the road closure We needed two thirds positive response and have got 73% of the road signed up today so I have filled out the form to send to the council for the road closure which is really exciting! I also dropped in a little save the date leaflet to those who signed  (hello to four new neighbours who joined this evening after that!) Two people raised an objection to moving cars for the day. I understand that parking is such a pain but it would be so lovely for one day for the road to be clear and for children to be able to play car free. Plus, much easier for the planned north/south tug o' war  ;)  So please do move your cars by around midday. We hav

Musicians Needed!!

We could really do with some musicians for the street party. Do ask your friends and neighbours. As it's our first one we have no budget but hopefully next year we could do a collection and pay some people. But if anyone fancies playing do let me know! We can pay them in cake :)
