First Meeting Minutes

Hi everyone! Sorry for the big delay in giving you the minutes from our street party meeting. It was lovely to meet some new neighbours, thank you to those who came. Here are the decisions we came to. Next steps are at the bottom:
DATE: Sunday 10th June 2018
TIME: 2-8pm
ROAD CLOSURE: We will be closing the part of Chester Terrace below Lucerne Rd down to Stanford Avenue but we will be having the tables from Lucerne Rd halfway down to encourage people to not just hang out with the neighbours they may already know, and to welcome the north end of Chester Terrace to come down as well.
- Please see the attached map - grey box for road closure, blue for table placement.
- Cars would need to be moved by midday. Having no cars really is important so kids can play and there's lots of room for everyone to put tables and get around them, plus it's just nice to see the road without cards! Our permit reaches really far and we have lots of notice about moving them - remember that Southdown Road/Place across from the park always has one side of the road clear and half of Cleveland is too. It's only for one day.

FURNITURE - If you have any garden/indoor furniture/tables/chairs/benches, do see if you can bring it out for everyone to use.Mike has very kindly offered us some trestle tables from church.
DECORATION - we will string bunting from the trees across the road (Mike and Graham have very kindly offered us bunting from church and school for this)
FOOD: As it's after lunch people can bring a dish and add to the tables.
* We were thinking of running a cake competition as well.
ENTERTAINMENT: It looks like we have several musicians on the road and Mike knows a couple of bands. Inbetween we are going to set up a Spotify playlist across a PA System (any suggestions for fun, upbeat music, let me know!)
* Also suggested is a tug of war between the north end and the south end of Chester Terrace
* A massive Pass the Parcel was suggested by Max
* Anyone do face painting?
* Outdoor Jenga
* Pavement chalking
WET WEATHER: Mike (who is slowly becoming amazing) has some gazebos - but please if you do have a gazebo do let us know if we can borrow it in case of a bit of rain. It's going ahead either way!
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mike Maskell (doing the majority of things but please do all help him!):
* Bunting,
* Trestle tables
* PA System
* Gazebos
* Outdoor jenga.
* Also speaking to any bands that may be interested in playing
Max (no 77) Working out the Pass the Parcel rules!
Graham (no 63) - bunting
Anyone want to take responsibility/nominate someone for:
* Anyone have any road closed signs?
* Face painting
* Anyone have a tug o war rope?!
* Chalk for pavements!
* Any more musicians?
* Any artists fancy making us a little leaflet for when we get the go ahead from the council to put through the door and up in our windows maybe?
NEXT STEPS:
* IMPORTANT *
In order for any of this to happen we need to get permission to close the road. I need volunteers to help us go door to door next week to get signatures (once the snow has gone!). The council have a form and we need 70% of the road to agree but it's free to get permission. We need to be lovely and persuasive as some people really do not want to move their cars even for half a day!
I can do Tuesday 6th afternoon and evening, Thursday 8th morning and all day Friday 9th March.
Is anyone else free to come too? We only need to get signatures from the south part of Chester Terrace, beneath Lucerne Rd. That's 31 properties on one side, and 39 on the other (I haven't looked into how many may be flats). I'll print off the forms (anyone have a couple of clipboards we can borrow?)
And last but not least - invite your neighbours into the group to keep updated!)
(Minutes typed up and put in documents for future reference and emailed to those who gave me their email address at the meeting)

Musicians Needed!!

We could really do with some musicians for the street party. Do ask your friends and neighbours. As it's our first one we have no budget but hopefully next year we could do a collection and pay some people. But if anyone fancies playing do let me know! We can pay them in cake :)

Council Application Submitted

Hello everyone, I'm still waiting on approval from the council but they did email a few weeks ago to say they'd received the application so at least that's something! I'll let you know as soon as I hear more and we can have another meeting to firm up plans! This is the leaflet that you should have had popped through your door!

Signatures from the south side

STREET PARTY UPDATE: SIGNATURES Mike and I had a successful walk around today (and I went around this evening for a few more) and I'm pleased to say that overall we had a wonderful response to the street party and met some lovely people! The form the council need filling in with 75% of the road agreeing to the road closure We needed two thirds positive response and have got 73% of the road signed up today so I have filled out the form to send to the council for the road closure which is really exciting! I also dropped in a little save the date leaflet to those who signed  (hello to four new neighbours who joined this evening after that!) Two people raised an objection to moving cars for the day. I understand that parking is such a pain but it would be so lovely for one day for the road to be clear and for children to be able to play car free. Plus, much easier for the planned north/south tug o' war  ;)  So please do move your cars by around midday. ...
